The Advanced Materials Show

The Advanced Materials Show is an international showcase of the latest innovations in modern materials. The leading exhibition and conference will bring together materials engineers, R&D professionals, scientists and product developers involved in manufacturing and integrating advanced materials technology.

Exploring the Future of Materials at The Advanced Materials Show 2025 – A Visit from Malvern Aqua Tech

Robert Kurek

This July, I had the pleasure of attending The Advanced Materials Show 2025 at the NEC Birmingham—an event that brought together some of the most exciting minds and innovations in materials science. Representing Malvern Aqua Tech and writing for robertkurek.com, I was particularly interested in how next-generation materials could shape the future of sustainable water-saving technologies.

Why I Attended

The show has quickly become a key event in the materials innovation calendar, and this year did not disappoint. With sectors ranging from automotive to energy storage, it was the perfect opportunity to explore how advanced materials are transforming both product development and environmental performance.

Highlights from the Show
1. Materials for Sustainability

One of the major themes was sustainability—particularly how materials can reduce energy and water usage. I was especially inspired by exhibitors showcasing low-carbon manufacturing, biodegradable composites, and membrane materials suitable for water treatment and purification.

2. Smart Applications

It was exciting to see smart coatings and responsive materials that could be applied to plumbing or filtration systems. These technologies hold real potential for reducing maintenance, improving performance, and extending product lifespan in water-related applications.

3. Cross-Industry Innovation

The show was co-located with The Advanced Ceramics Show, Battery Cells & Systems Expo, and Vehicle Electrification Expo—creating the perfect space for cross-industry inspiration. Many of the innovations I saw could easily be adapted to residential water-saving devices, a core focus of Malvern Aqua Tech.

Takeaways for Malvern Aqua Tech

Attending the show has sparked several ideas, especially around integrating ceramic filters, conductive polymers, and additive manufacturing techniques into future products—such as our upcoming Smart Globes.

These conversations and discoveries have reinforced my belief that materials innovation is essential for the future of energy and water efficiency.

What’s Next?

I’ll be diving deeper into some of the standout technologies and how they may influence the next generation of water-saving devices in an upcoming article.

If you're working on a product that could benefit from sustainable material choices, or you're simply curious about what's next in green tech, I encourage you to explore this event next year.

InstallerSHOW 2025: The UK's Premier Event for Heat, Water, and Energy Professionals

InstallerSHOW 2025 returns to the NEC Birmingham from 24–26 June 2025, promising to be the biggest and most impactful event yet for professionals working across plumbing, heating, electrics, cooling, and renewable energy systems.

My Experience at InstallerSHOW 2025 – A Must-Attend Event for Sustainable Innovation

Robert Kurek

As a water and energy saving specialist, I’m always searching for smarter, more efficient solutions that help households and businesses reduce waste and lower utility costs. That’s why I attended InstallerSHOW 2025 at the NEC Birmingham – and I must say, this year’s event exceeded all expectations.

A Hub of Innovation and Expertise

From the moment I walked in, I was surrounded by a community of forward-thinking engineers, installers, manufacturers, and sustainability experts. The event brought together more than 800 exhibitors and 30,000 professionals, all focused on the future of heating, plumbing, electrics, and renewable technologies.

The most exciting part? Seeing just how fast the industry is moving toward low-carbon, eco-conscious, and smart retrofit solutions.

Who I Met

Throughout the three days, I had the opportunity to connect with:

  • Representatives from top brands in water-saving fixtures, flow regulators, and smart home controls

  • Members of the Heat Pump Association and Ofgem, sharing insights on national decarbonisation goals

  • Fellow specialists and engineers from across the UK, exchanging ideas on practical retrofits and reducing consumption in both domestic and commercial settings

I was also able to catch presentations from industry leaders like Charlotte Lee (HPA) and Paul Kenny (EHPA), who discussed how installers play a crucial role in accelerating the UK’s clean energy transition.

Highlights That Inspired Me

One of the most impactful features of the show was InstallerBUILD, which included The HAUS – a full-scale, two-storey modular home built right inside the NEC. It was a live demonstration of how sustainable design, energy efficiency, and water conservation can come together in one smart system.

Other standout experiences included:

  • Hands-on testing of new low-flow tap technologies and smart leak detection systems

  • Conversations around circular design and how materials in the built environment can be reused

  • Discovering new innovations that I’ll be reviewing and sharing soon on robertkurek.com

Why Events Like This Matter

InstallerSHOW is more than just a trade event – it’s a platform for education, collaboration, and real-world problem solving. For professionals like me working at the intersection of quality engineering, water efficiency, and sustainable living, it’s an invaluable space to stay updated and connect with those shaping the industry.
